5 Romance Titles We’re Enjoying & 5 Upcoming Titles We’re Excited About (The Mary Sue)

News

One of the great burdens of my life right now is making more time for romance—not in real life, I get plenty of that (slay)—but in my reading. There is so much amazing stuff out, and coming out, that sometimes I look at my stack of Avon with a quivering fear in anticipation.

While we have our own official book club, I wanted to make this special post about the books that I have been able to read and enjoy, along with the titles that are really making me look at my mail every day to see if it’ll be on my desk. The collection below is diverse featuring romances with East Asian, South East Asian, Black, white, and Jewish women looking to find love in this messy world we call life.

People of all ethnicities, backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations and interests fall in love every single day, but until recently it’s been hard—if not impossible—to find romance books that actually reflect the real word. Love-ly books to stoke your Valentine’s heart (The Toronto Star)

News

Flowers and chocolates might be on the shopping list this week, along with these new novels of love, both lost and found.

The Matchmaker’s List, Sonya Lalli

Raina made a deal with her grandmother. If Raina hasn’t found a husband by age 29, her nani will compile a list of suitable suitors. Our heroine — half-Indian, half-white, fully Canadian — tells herself that modern matchmaking is really just “arranged dating” and she won’t actually have to marry one of nani’s seven prospects. A smart and amusing entry into the chick-lit canon, this is the Saskatchewan-born, Toronto-based author’s first novel.

Shelf-Love: Sonya Lalli (Penguin Random House)

Behind-the-scenes and between-the-pages with Sonya Lalli, the debut author of The Matchmaker’s List.

Receiving rave reviews from fellow authors and magazines alike, Sonya’s debut novel, The Matchmaker’s List, follows Raina Anand, a devoted modern girl, who agrees to let her traditional grandmother play matchmaker, giving us a laugh-out-loud story about finding love where you least expect it .

Set against the multicultural backdrop of Toronto,  it only made sense to pay Sonya a visit at her Toronto home to chat about her novel, her writing process, and of course, her book collection. Working in publishing herself, Sonya’s book collection is teeming with everything from beloved classics, to advance copies of yet-to-be-released titles… basically, a book lover’s dream.
